Rome 2 crashing has become a menace for PC users. They are looking for ways to play this game without any glitches. Here, I have tried to put up several steps that can be applied in your PC to avoid crashing with this game. These steps are easy to perform and are risk-free:
1. Change Game Settings

Change Game Settings
Disable DirectX 11 through the game configuration file known as “preferences script”. Set-up game configurations in the manner given below:
For Windows 8 & Earlier Versions:
1. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
2. Open the following path:
C:Users[Your User Name] AppDataRoamingCreative AssemblyROME2Scripts
3. Double click “Preferences.script.txt” file.
4. Search a string called “gfx_enable_directx11”. Replace its value to False.
5. Click File | Save.
Provide Read/ Write Permissions
The game file may not have adequate read/write/ access. Configure game shortcut properties to fix Rome 2 crashing.
For Windows 8 & Earlier Versions:
1. Right-click desktop shortcut of the game.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Click the Edit button under Group or User Names.
5. Provide modify, read, write and execute permissions.
6. Click Apply | OK.
Change NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
NVIDIA users have a control panel to access important display card settings. If you’re NVIDIA user, change global settings in the following manner:
For Windows 8 & Earlier Versions:
1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Click 3D Settings and then Global Settings tab.
3. Set High-Performance Processor.
4. Click Apply | Close.
Reduce Sound Acceleration
Rome 2 crash occurs due to higher sound acceleration. Reduce the sound acceleration through DirectX Dialog.
For Earlier Versions of Windows:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories and select Run.
2. Type “DxDiag” in the Open box and click OK.
3. Click the Sound tab.
4. Reduce the sound acceleration and then click Apply | OK.
For Windows 8:
1. Press the Windows Key, type “DxDiag” in the Search Box.
2. Click the Apps icon.
3. Follow Steps 3-4 of the above paragraph given for earlier versions.
Fix Registry Settings
Most importantly, the Registry which consists of important game settings needs to be repaired. Invalid Registry entries, wrong settings cause frequent crashes.
For Windows 8 & Earlier Versions:
1. Download, install and run an authentic System Utility/Registry Repair software.
2. Start full Registry Scan.
3. Fix all errors detected.
Clear Game Cache
Steam Cache contains most frequently loaded files.
For Windows 8 & Earlier Versions:
1. Exit Steam.
2. Right click the Steam shortcut, select “Run as Administrator” option.
3. Click Library section. Right click Rome 2, select Properties.
4. Click Local Files tab and then Verify integrity of game cache button.
5. Cache verification and repair process starts.
